Hey JRWawa,

Thanks for the feedback and question! I’ll add this to our ever-growing list of questions and get Mike to talk about it on a future session.

Quick answer is yes. You can use hypnotic language patterns in writing, but obiously there are more limitations versus being in front of someone.

Writing is visual. You use your writing to guide the reader, hoping to create appropriate kinesthetic and auditory hallucinations as he or she reads. But you can’t incorporate external auditory or kinesthetic information, nor can you calibrate to the reader’s response.

So you’re left with a scenario where you must go in knowing your audience and their problems. Use pacing statements to build rapport, and then you can lead into all of the usual language patterns such as the “as if” framework we discussed.

I’d love to hear Mike’s take on this too. Are there ways of using confusion techniques or doing other pattern interrupts in writing? I have my own opinions, but he’s the master. I defer to him!

Very interesting stuff. I find myself now analyzing everything that Mike says…and wonder if I just got bombarded with “visit Toronto” “fly Porter” hypnotic-info-mercials;)

I am wondering if hypnosis can be transferred to writing? I have heard the term hypnotic writing used by Law of Attraction guru Joe Vitale. And if so, could a writer try to use hypnotic-writing to get a down-and-out community to begin to look at itself in a more positive light and expect a brighter future?

Just some thoughts from a life-time resident of a small Northern Ontario town trying to reinvent itself.
